This site (along with our sister site, Fleetwood Motor Trawlers) is run under the banner of Fleetwood Maritime Heritage Trust.
The site was originally written as a way of keeping alive the memory of the thousands of fishermen by whose efforts the town of Fleetwood relied on for its prosperity.
It also comemmorates the hundreds of Fleetwood fishermen who gave their lives in two World Wars or sailed down the Wyre and were wrecked, sunk or just vanished along with their vessel.
The idea came to me after the death of my uncle, Peter Ince. Peter survived WW2 and continued in the fishing industry until its decline and ill health forced him ashore.
Fleetwood fishermen get fewer each year as time claims them. It is important that the memories and knowledge locked in their minds does not disappear with them.
